Aptos Launches NFT Bridge on Wormhole, Expanding Interoperability Between Chains

The layer-1 blockchain protocol Aptos (APT), commonly known as the Solana Terminator, launched a new NFT token bridge on Wormhole, realizing cross-chain interoperability. Mo Shaikh, co-founder and CEO of Aptos Protocol, said that the NFT bridge is a game changer for the future of Web3.0, taking the interoperability of the network to a new level.

The NFT Bridge allows for seamless NFT transfers between any supported chain while preserving their metadata. When an NFT is moved off its parent chain, it is locked in the NFT bridge smart contract and a wrapped NFT is placed in the corresponding collection on the target chain. A Wrapped NFT has the same name, look and work as other NFTs on the chain, but it also has the unique ability to be sent back to the original chain and unlock the original NFT.

Currently, the Portal bridge supports NFT connections from Arbitrum, Aurora, Avalanche, BSC, Celo, Ethereum, Fantom, Karura, Klaytn, Moonbeam, Oasis, Optimism, Polygon, and Solana to Aptos and vice versa. Previously, advanced NFTs like Cryptopunks and Beeple were connected through Wormhole.

The ability to connect NFTs with Aptos opens up new possibilities for users’ NFTs, creating many exciting new use cases. As NFTs continue to grow in popularity, this new feature presents a significant opportunity for creators and artists on different chains to increase the visibility of their work.

Wormhole is an interoperable protocol that connects to multiple chains, including Ethereum, Solana, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, and more. It enables cross-chain functionality, allowing users to interact with xDapps and transfer xAssets networks between them or access their xData to provide services to them on their existing networks. Currently, there are more than 60 protocols built on top of Wormhole’s common messaging layer.

Wormholes total over $35 billion and send millions of messages every day. The launch of the Aptos NFT Bridge brings a new level of interoperability to the web and it is exciting to see how this new capability will shape the future of Web 3.0.
